CLOCKSMITHS CHARTER

Clocksmiths concerns itself with the following facets of Clocks: Service and
Repair, History and Research, Sales, Construction, Preservation, Appraisal and
Collecting, as well as the Business of Running a Clock Repair Shop.

The requirements for membership are that you MUST be or have been directly
involved in the clock trade either through consultation, education, service,
sales, or related material sales.

Rules and Responsibilities of listmembers:
(Last updated on July 14, 2002)

1. Clocksmiths is first and foremost a clock related list. Extended discussion
of topics outside this area should be taken off the Clocksmiths list.
Typically, watch discussion is limited to areas where the repair of mechanical
watches parallels the repair of clocks. If you have an occasional instance
where you need information on collectibility, parts, or appraisal of watches,
please make a request for assistance off list.

2. Although the list is primarily made up of people involved in the horological
trade, there are many people who involve their families in their work. As such,
the list should be treated with a "family values" approach. Off color jokes and
profanity will not be tolerated. Please consider "darn" the limit instead of
expletives, it makes for a much more pleasant reading list. Offenders will be
placed on moderated status, repeat offenders will be removed from the list.

3. History has shown that we cannot enter into DISCUSSION of politics or religion
on the list. If you wish to debate either, or take issue with the views another
listmember pertaining to these topics, do so off list. Flaming of any kind will
not be tolerated. Posts involving any of the above may be deleted from the archives,
and offending members may be placed on moderated status. Repeat violators will be
removed from the list.

4. The membership list visible to list members at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/clocksmiths , will not be used for any other
purpose but to communicate within Clocksmiths. Any other use is expressly
forbidden, and will be grounds for removal from Clocksmiths.

5. All data, figures, prices and other business related information is to remain
within Clocksmiths. Members should feel confident that business related
information given in Clocksmiths will not be disseminated elsewhere. Any member
who uses this type of information from Clocksmiths (other than their personal
information) in another forum without the express written consent of the author
will have their membership terminated.

6. Duplicated posting with any other Internet discussion group is highly
discouraged. If in your opinion you will be better served by another group, then
post your problem/question there first. If after a period of three days you do
not receive what you were looking for, you may post the identical request in
Clocksmiths. Consideration will be given to the posting of a time sensitive
announcement that would be expedient to reach all interested parties as quickly
as possible. This does NOT include your Ebay auction that ends in an hour.

7. Clocksmiths is not an advertising medium. Members with commercial
enterprises are welcome to advertise them once per calendar month. Signature
tag lines that include business name and contact information are not subject to
the once a month stipulation.

Courtesies and Suggestions:
(The following was last updated on July 14, 2002)

The following are suggested etiquette rules for most email lists.

1. Please do NOT send private mail to the list.

2. Please do NOT quote the entire E-mail and footers to which you are
responding. Quote enough to insure the reader will be familiar with what you are
responding to. It is a good idea to place your comments on the top portion of
the E-mail and leave any quoted text to which you are responding at the bottom
of your new E-mail. It becomes especially tiring to sift through archived
messages with full quoted text and footers in each message.

3. Please be as accurate as possible when using the subject line of the E-mail.
This way if a member is not interested in the content he/she can skip it.

4. Your name and location are always welcomed at the end of your message. Many
times comments are location specific, and if everyone knows what part of the
world, or country you are posting from, it helps us more clearly interpret your
meaning.

5. When you are trying to be funny, sarcastic, or are just trying to lighten the
mood, please use an indicator of that fact. Use a smiley face such as ), :), :-)
,:^) or whatever. The written word tends to be taken literally, and without the
above indicators your poke at fun might be taken the wrong way.

6. Please DO NOT COMPOSE YOUR MESSAGE WITH ALL CAPITAL LETTERS because it
implies that you are shouting. Shouting is considered rude by E-mail and
newsgroup standards.

7. A quick check of your spelling and grammar won't hurt.

8. Remember that you are addressing an international list. Please use
discretion and non-offensive language when writing in Clocksmiths.

The listowner and the membership thank you.
