The following is a list of companies who repair the Accutron.
My advise is anyone reading this is to find a "local" repair person and
establish a good relationship with that person. Do NOT pick just anyone.
Ask whether or not they belong to either of the following:
AWI (American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute),
BHI (British Horological Institute), or
NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors).
Hopefully that local person will belong to at least one (1) of the
aforementioned organizations. This will NOT guarantee that the
person is knowledgeable or reputable but it WILL tell you that most
likely that person is a caring and serious repair person that strives to
keep well informed and apprised of the "best" techniques concerning
your restoration.
In any event AWI has a referral service which may put you at ease.

A message from George Painter about battery replacement.
The replacement for the 343 mercury bat.(1.2V) is a 344 silver
(1.5V). If you use the 344 you should have the watch rephased
by a watchmaker. A new alternative to the 343 is a new Zinc-air
cell, 218ZA (1.4V). It comes with a spacer to make it fit. The
218ZA has a shorter life, but you should not have to rephased the
watch providing it is already in good operating condition.
The 214 Accutron used a 387 Mercury battery (1.35V). The silver
substitute is a 387S (1.5V). The Zinc-air cell replacement is a
214ZA (1.4V) and also has a spacer included.
Please note that my original posting had 1.2V for the 343. Both
Accutron Mercury batteries are 1.35V.
Also, there is some question of the long term affect of the
zinc-air battery in the watches, i.e., what happens when a
zinc-air battery is left in the watch for years after it has
expired? There is some possibility that it may corrode much
sooner than the original mercury and silver batteries. The
users should be careful of this fact.

Lastly may I suggest that you take the timepiece into a local
repair shop and ask for the accreditation's I mentioned at the
beginning of this file. Besides what I already mentioned a
local repair person will keep the monies you spend within your
community. This type of support will help keep professionals
in your community and thereby guarantee that your community
will prosper and flourish.
